Unique relationship between races should be preserved
Tebrau MP Khoo Soo Seang said the unique bond between the races here should be preserved for the benefit of the nation and preserving the harmony of the rakyat.
“The respect of different races in the country with each other truly makes Malaysia special and stand out among other countries in the world,” he said after officiating the Culture and Arts carnival held in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
The event was held at SK Kampung Sungai Tiram here organised by Johor Bawean Malaysia Association.
Khoo applauded the association’s efforts in preserving its culture to the younger generation and promoting it to different races as well.
“Some of the performances by the association members such as the ‘kerenchengan’ (traditional Bawean dance) might never be heard off by others especially the younger generation.
“Currently our heritage and culture is facing strong competition from modern entertainment especially from foreign countries,” he said.
He added that by having such events it would highlight such traditions to attract the rakyat in particular the younger generation to continue practising it.
Khoo also urged the rakyat to support such carnivals in the near future.-TS
